Real Moms Share: What I Wish I Knew About the Postpartum Period

No matter how much you prepare for life after birth, postpartum still has a way of surprising you. From physical recovery to emotional changes, many new parents say, "I wish someone had told me..." So we asked real moms to share the one thing they wish they’d known about postpartum life. Here’s what they said.

"The emotional rollercoaster is real."

"I knew hormones would shift, but I wasn’t prepared for how up and down I’d feel. I cried a lot, sometimes for no reason. It helped to know it was normal—and to talk to someone who understood."

"It’s okay to ask for help."

"I thought I had to do it all myself. But accepting help didn’t make me weak—it made things so much easier. Let people bring food, hold the baby, or just sit with you."

"Healing takes time—physically and emotionally."

"I expected to bounce back quickly, but recovery is a process. Give yourself grace. It’s okay to move slow, and rest is part of the healing."

"Feeding can be hard, even if it’s 'natural.”

"Breastfeeding wasn’t intuitive for me. I needed support, and I’m so glad I reached out to a lactation consultant. It’s okay if it’s challenging."

"You’re doing better than you think."

"I questioned everything I did—but looking back, I was doing great. Trust your instincts and be gentle with yourself."

Why Sharing Matters

When we share real stories, we help normalize the full spectrum of postpartum experiences. You’re not alone in your struggles, and you don’t have to figure it all out on your own.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, uncertain, or just need a listening ear, that’s what I’m here for. Postpartum can be beautiful and hard at the same time—and you deserve support through it all.
