Our Team

Every provider. Carefully chosen. Fully prepared.

When you invite someone into your home during the most vulnerable weeks of your life, you deserve to know exactly how they got there.

At Sun & Stars, we don't post job listings and hope for the best. We build our team through intentional recruitment — drawing from Wisconsin's birth worker community, referrals from providers we already trust, and a genuine commitment to finding doulas who do this work because it matters to them.

Here's what that process looks like.

Most agencies are a roster. We're a team — and there's a real difference.

Every month, our providers are able to come together in person for team meetings that cover continuing education, updated best practices, and the kind of collaborative problem-solving that only happens face to face. We train together, debrief together, and hold each other to a shared standard of care.

This matters for your family in a practical way: when your doula has a question about your situation, she's not alone. She has a team behind her — people she knows, trusts, and works alongside regularly. If your care involves a transition between providers, those providers have already built a working relationship with each other. The handoff is smooth because the foundation is already there.

We invest in our team because it makes us better at supporting yours.

A Team That Actually Knows Each Other

How We Vet

Every Sun & Stars provider goes through a multi-step screening process before they ever meet a family.

Background check — comprehensive, every time. Certification verification through their credentialing body. A personal interview focused not just on experience, but on communication, boundaries, and how they handle the unexpected. Reference checks with families or supervisors from prior placements. And a values alignment conversation with Rachael directly — because credentials tell us what someone knows, but a conversation tells us who they are.

We'd rather have a smaller team we trust completely than a large roster we barely know.

What Our Doulas Bring

Our providers hold certifications through recognized bodies including ProDoula, DONA International, CAPPA, and Madriella, among others. Many carry additional training in lactation support, infant sleep, safe sleep practices, and newborn care for multiples and premature infants.

Beyond certification, our team collectively brings experience across hundreds of postpartum placements — in homes ranging from first-time parents navigating recovery alone to seasoned families welcoming their third or fourth child. They've supported c-section recoveries, NICU graduates, families managing postpartum mood disorders, and everything in between.

They show up on time. They communicate clearly. They adapt.

The Backup Promise

One of the most important things we offer isn't a service — it's a structure.

Every family who books with Sun & Stars has access to our full team network. If your matched provider has an emergency, you won't be scrambling on your own. We maintain backup coverage as a built-in feature of every placement, not an afterthought.

This is the difference between hiring a doula and hiring an agency.

How Matching Works

After your intake call, Rachael personally reviews your family's needs — your schedule, your parenting approach, your comfort level, your specific postpartum situation — and matches you with the provider whose experience and availability fits best.

You'll have a chance to connect with your matched provider for an in-person prenatal before care begins. If something doesn't feel right, we find a better fit. Full stop.

Serving Three Markets

Our team operates across Southern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois — with providers based in and around Madison, Milwaukee, and the northern Chicago suburbs. Whether you're in Sun Prairie or Shorewood, Verona or Waukesha, we have someone nearby who can show up for you.
